Conversational Sign Language Courses
IDHHC is pleased to offer Level 1 and Level 2 Conversational Sign Language Courses
These eight-session courses are designed to give persons in the Victoria Community, who are in contact with sign language users, the opportunity to learn some basic conversational sign language and Deaf Culture information in a casual and fun atmosphere.

This certified and professionally timed
course will be open to all levels of participants, bringing
together members from the running community, walking clubs, elite running
clubs, supporters of the agency, clients and volunteers. Participants
can choose to enter either the 10 km run, 10 km walk or 5 km walk.
Awards and ribbons will be presented immediately following the event with
a Sign Language Interpreter and Captionist present to provide communication
support for those participants who are deaf or hard of hearing.

SUMMER CELEBRATION
IDHHC’s Family and Community program put on our annual "Summer Celebration” on June 20, which brought together deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families on southern Vancouver Island. There was a free BBQ (thanks to donations from local grocery stores), volleyball, bocce ball and a craft room where children made kites, masks and funny hats under the supervision of adults.
Face painting was very popular, and was set up outside next to an inflated obstacle course, and there was ample opportunity for socialization. All in all, it was a very successful event, and we’re looking forward to next year’s Celebration
"DEAF PLUS" SOCIAL CALENDAR
"Deaf Plus" refers to Deaf individuals who have additional life challenges. The group meets twice a month which provides an opportunity to socialize.
